About and Contact

Welcome to FUNBIT

FUNBIT is a research project funded by an EU Marie Skłodowska-Curie (IF-EF) fellowship awarded to Dr. María García-Altares in March 2016 (see in CORDIS). The project is supervised by Prof. Christian Hertweck and carried out at the Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology – Hans Knöll Institute (HKI) in Jena (Germany).

FUNBIT aims to enhance the discovery rate of natural products applying a multidisciplinary workflow guided by Imaging Mass Spectrometry.

In this blog you will find the updates of the project, as well as exciting news about research in mass spectrometry and natural products. You can also find us in Twitter and Facebook.

And if you want to contact us, please email to funbitproject@gmail.com or maria.garcia-altares@hki-jena.de.

About Dr. María García-Altares

I studied a BSc in Environmental Sciences in Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Spain, 2005-2009), an MSc in Aquatic Ecology in Wageningen University (The Netherlands, 2008-2010) and an MSc in Chromatographic Techniques at Universitat Rovira i Virgilli (Spain, 2010-2011). My PhD was carried out at IRTA and Universitat Rovira i Virgili (Spain, 2010-2015) and focused on the study of marine microalgal biotoxins by mass spectrometric means. I also collaborated with the Cork Institute of Technology (Ireland, 2012) and the University of Naples Federico II (Italy, 2013).

Currently, I work as a postdoc at the Hans Knöll Institute (Germany) in the department on Biomolecular Chemistry with Professor Christian Hertwerck, applying imaging mass spectrometry to investigate microbial natural products.

You can find my updated profile in Google Scholar and in ResearchGate.
